Operator presence system
-High-torque, low-speed hydraulic motors power the rotary and carriage drives. On the rotary drive, a single through-shaft motor is utilized to power the drill string and downhole tooling. The carriage drive is made up of high-torque / low-speed motors matched with planetary gearboxes that provide smooth and powerful force with fewer motors. The hydraulic design allows an operator to simultaneously run full rotary torque and full rotary rpm.
-The thrust box includes a large bearing-pack assembly designed to absorb the axial load caused by thrust and pullback. Shifting the load from the rotational motor to this assembly reduces one of the factors that can shorten the life of a motor.
-The floating top vise is mounted to the carriage assembly and grips the drill rod directly in front of the quill, helping prevent rod wrap or windup when breaking out of the upper joint. This also eliminates the need to travel the front vise up the length of the rack, reducing cycle times and ultimately increasing productivity. A built-in float prevents premature wear to the drill-rod threading during upper-joint makeup and breakout.
